Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation   of Seattle WA , awarded  $7,149,856 in December 2001 and then in  2004 another $6,000,000 to start up 30 Middle College Early College High Schools.

Carnegie Corporation of New York

In June 2002 the Carnegie Coporation of New York awarded MCNC $500,000 to support the start up of 20 new Middle College Early Colleges.

W. K. Kellogg Foundation

W. K. Kellogg Foundation through JFF awarded MCNC  $875,000 in June 2002 to engage schools, postsecondary institutions and communities within the Early College High School Initiative

The Ford Foundation

In August 2002 the Ford Foundation awarded to LaGuardia Community College  $193,000 for  the design of early college , named EXCEL, at Middle College High School and International High School. It was the first award for the development of want has become Early College.

In February 2003 $300,000 was awarded to MCNC for support for capacity building to replicate the early college model developed by Middle College National Consortium. And in July 2007, $700,000 was awarded to strengthen organizational capacity and develop strategic communications related to the Middle College Early College model.
